It's been over a week since Jamie and I both accepted our diplomas signaling both the end of our undergraduate careers and the beginning of life outside of academia.
It's been exciting to watch my roommate land her first job, find her first "real" apartment, and start the adventure of adulthood.
Jamie and I, along with several other classmates decided to not just take a different path, but to go off-roading for at least a year. All SMC graduates participating in service were honored a few weeks ago with a blessing and ceremony. You can read an article about it here. Some pictures from the event are included below:
Jamie and I had our picture taken outside of Regina Hall / Chapel before the ceremony! |
This is Lizziey lighting a candle with the director of the OCSC at Saint Mary's College. *This picture was not taken by me, but by Saint Mary's College. You can access it via the link above. |
You can see Jamie and myself along with some other students holding our candles during the service. *Also taken by Saint Mary's College |
Troy took some pictures of the chapel |
The ceremony was beautiful and moving, and we are thankful that our college believes so strongly in the mission of service.
Jamie and I also met with Sister Esther the week before we graduated! We found out that there are two different positions in store for us! One of us will be in a classroom of second graders. The other will be in the library, the computer room, possibly teaching some 4th graders, along with whatever else the school needs! We are super excited.
It's at this moment that I'll put in a plug for all former teachers reading this blog: if you have any materials you'd like to give/loan us or ideas to share, we would love to have them!
I stole two pictures from Jamie's facebook of some very special people in our lives:
